IMPORTANT NOTICE

PROPOSED TIMBER HARVESTING AT  MONOCACY HILL

Amity Township supervisors are planning to implement a timber harvesting plan on  Monocacy Hill starting in 2026.

As you may remember from earlier this year, MHCA has found it necessary to step down from the heavy maintenance work at the park. We had advocated for the township to donate the land to the Bureau of Forestry and Monocacy Hill would become a State Forest.  At first the township said this would be a good solution and Bureau of Forestry was in agreement. Later the township changed their mind.  While Amity Township has taken a more active role in maintenance of the park, they have also hired a company to write a forest management plan for the Hill with the intent of gaining income from timber harvesting.  Some income may be needed to do trail improvements and invasives work, but we feel that this plan is extreme.

The Township will be discussing and possibly voting on this timber management plan at their meeting on January 21, 2026.  Please attend this meeting and submit questions in advance.

The proposed plan is available to the public to review.  You can access it on the township’s website. This is a direct link to the plan: https://amitytownshippa.com/wp2/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Amity-Township-Monocacy-Hill-Recreation-Area-FMP.pdf

The Township is requesting that anyone that wants to ask questions of the foresters at the January 21 meeting should send those questions in to them in advance. The questions should be submitted by email to secretary@amitytownshippa.com by January 9th.

Because the plan is rather long, we have provided a summary of the plan at this link –

We encourage you to reach out to us via email with any questions you may have about this and watch for updates on our Facebook page.
