ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

In 2007 MHCA and Amity Township completed the installation of several types of environmental signs at the Hill.  Visit the park and check out the species identification book, botanical markers for tree species and these 4 intereptive signs:  "Impacts to Forests" ,  "What Do Forests Do for Us" ,  "Layers of Forest Life" and history buffs will want to check out the "History of Monocacy Hill"  located at the old quarry building along Lower Trail.

LEARN WHILE YOU WALK . We now offer several self guided activities - SCAVENGER HUNT,  TREE IDENTIFICATION, BIRDWALK sheets are available at the park entrance for kids and adults.

The sign project was made possible by a grant from  Berks County Recreation grant funding and the bequest of a former Amity resident - Zenovia Lipauf.  MHCA volunteers worked to create the design and text of the signs. Our thanks to Bruce Gilbert and Charlie Miller from Amity Heritage Society and  various township residents for photos and history info,  Jan Lopuski and Helen Brower for design work, Amity Parks and Rec Board and Township staff, Linda Ingram and  Dr. Susan Munch for proof reading.
